- Sheltered waters provide safe sailing and kayaking for beginners. More experienced boaters can enjoy excellent day or overnight trips to adjacent islands. Kayaking and sailing lessons are available at Ladysmith.
- Walking, jogging and biking trails are close by in Chemainus, Ladysmith and in the Cedar area, south of Nanaimo.
- Swimming in the ocean is possible on summer days. Also, Fuller Lake at Chemainus and Transfer Beach at Ladysmith both offer shady, grassy areas with safe swimming.
