At 13 years of age, Gary enrolled in a High School jewellery making course - that lasted his entire life! Recognizing his niche early in life, he began a four-year apprenticeship in jewellery creation and design with Toni Cavelti in Vancouver, at the age of 17. He recalls with pride that while he was with Mr. Cavelti, the firm was commissioned to create the presentation pieces to Queen Elizabeth and her family during their 1972 visit.
